Crocodile 1; Red Lechwe 0.

We’ve experienced some very interesting sightings at Jessie’s Pools lately. Yesterday evening, at around 5:30pm, guests at Camp Moremi were on a game drive with Banda. As they were watching a herd of breeding elephants in the distance – and with thoughts beginning to turn to the idea of a nice, cold sundowner – one of the guests suddenly let out an exclamation.

2010 Service Excellence Awards

As we all look forward to the future – with the New Year just hours away – we are also looking back at the past year and in particular, the performance of our team members. Every year Desert & Delta Safaris gives a series of awards to our camps and staff, acknowledging those particular members and teams who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make our guests’ experiences so special.

Mating in Moremi

Lions at Moremi Game Reserve

Guests on this morning’s game drive were really hoping to see Camp Moremi’s local pride of lions, which have been proving elusive of late. After two days without a lion sighting, the guide decided to head a little further afield in the hope that the pride had simply wandered into a different neighbourhood – after all, even lions enjoy a change of scenery from time to time.

Leopard vs.Tsessebe

Leopard and tsessebe

Whilst the leopards at Savute Safari Lodge seem to be content with eating guinea fowl, a leopard in Moremi Game Reserve seems to have set its sights on bigger things.

A tribute to Jessie Neil, 1927-2010

Last week, Desert & Delta Safaris learned of the sad death of Jessie Neil, the original founder of the company and a pioneer of photographic safari tourism in Botswana.

Desert & Delta Safaris – and, in fact, the entire Botswana tourism industry – would not have been the same without the influence of this great woman, and so today we post a tribute to this larger-than-life lady.

After dinner visitors at Camp Moremi

This evening, after an eventful day of game viewing which included cheetah and serval, guests were treated to two final sightings just before bed.

Serval at Moremi Game Reserve

Serval at Camp Moremi

This afternoon a family of guests at Camp Moremi set out on a game drive hoping to spot the lions which had recently been seen in the area. Kitso, one of the guides at Camp Moremi, began driving the game vehicle in the direction of the lions’ last known sighting when suddenly a serval appeared in the middle of the road.

Hippos at Moremi’s Maya Pan

While guests were enjoying their morning tea break at Maya Pan in Moremi Game Reserve, a young, badly-scarred hippo arrived at the water’s edge to join the other resident hippos.

2009 Annual Service Excellence Award

2009 Service Excellence Award - Camp Moremi

Desert & Delta Safaris introduced the Annual Service Excellence Award, The Elephant Trophy, in 2000. The intention of the award is to identify the lodge that best personifies our guest-centric service ethos. For the past nine years the trophy has been keenly contested, and this year was no exception.
