Great wildlife sightings in front of Savute Safari Lodge

Sunset at Savute

At Savute Safari Lodge we are very blessed to regularly dine with the elephants in front of the lodge but today was an extra special brunch as not only was there a small breeding herd of elephants enjoying the channel but a small herd of male buffalos which are known to us as ‘Dagga Boys’ [...]

Savute Safari Lodge Report – July

When you have been living in the bush for a few years one would think that you would grow accustomed to the ways of the bush… writes Michelle Odumetse. I try not to become complacent with what there is to see each and every day, but the amazing thing about living in the bush is that [...]

Leopard Hat-trick

Leopard with impala

Monday 6th June was a sensational day for sightings at Savute Safari Lodge. During the morning activities, our guides spotted two wild dogs amongst a herd of buffalo. Wild dogs are always a wonderful sighting and our guests watched in awe as these beautiful ‘painted dogs’ hung around, planning their next move. However, Mother Nature had more in store for our guests on this sunny Monday morning, and she decided to factor a leopard into the mix.

Wild dogs and leopards at Savute Safari Lodge

Yesterday was a busy day at Savute Safari Lodge. Guests on a game drive enjoyed a beautiful leopard sighting; as they watched the leopard weave along the road they were then delighted to see stalking a small owl. It was unsuccessful in its search for dinner but the opportunity to watch it nimbly make its way up a very spindly tree was a wonderful sighting.

Porcupine 1, Leopard 0

Savute Safari Lodge’s resident leopard has had a string of bad luck lately. At the beginning of the month we blogged about her failure to catch a flock of roosting guinea fowl, and so more recently she seems to have changed her preferred prey.

Marshmallow Magic

It’s always nice to welcome guests to Savute Safari Lodge, but it’s particularly nice when they’ve stayed with us before and are familiar faces. This week we’ve had several repeat guests staying with us: a group of people who are originally from the UK but now live just over the South African border in Johannesburg.

SSL Buffalo Post

Guests at Savute Safari Lodge were treated to an extra special sighting this afternoon: buffalo outside the lodge.

Winter is well and truly behind us at Savute Safari Lodge, with temperatures hovering perilously close to 40 degrees C already.

Cats in camp

While Savute Safari Lodge is well known for its elephants, it is building a well deserved reputation as a superb place to watch the big cats from the comfort of camp.
