The 44th anniversary of Botswana’s Independence Day was celebrated in style at Savute Safari Lodge.

Lions tackle a mammoth task at Savute

Whilst we’re not complaining about the recent (and numerous) sightings of wild dogs at Savute Safari Lodge, it is with some relief that the latest report from Shane and Kim finally mentions some other inhabitants of Savute’s animal kingdom: three male lions sitting on the other side of the Savute Channel.

An unexpected Discovery…

New Land Rover Discovery

When one of our guides, Ngande, woke up on Friday morning, little did he know what surprises we had in store for him that day. That morning, Savute Safari Lodge welcomed a special Land Rover Expedition team, who were staying for one night before continuing north to Chobe Game Lodge. The expedition included Andrew Daniel, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover South Africa, who was driving the brand new Land Rover Discovery 4.

Hot on the heels of last Thursday’s wild dog sighting by the pool, tonight guests at Savute Safari Lodge once more witnessed a wild dog tearing through the grounds in pursuit of an impala.

Wild dogs spend a morning at the pool

Late night leopards at Savute

In July we blogged about the vast numbers of elephants that can be seen, day and night, at the artificial waterhole near Savute Safari Lodge’s viewing deck. However, it’s not just the elephants that visit the lodge on a daily basis.

Wild dogs take an early morning swim

At Desert & Delta Safaris we try our best to tempt guests out of bed, from the gentle wake-up call to the piping hot coffee and hearty breakfast which will keep you warm till brunch. But on Friday, early risers at Savute Safari Lodge had an extra treat in store.

Wild dogs at Savute Marsh

Wild dog carrying meat

Today was a great day for wild dog sightings in Chobe National Park. As guests were entering Savute Marsh, they spotted a pack of wild dogs in the distance. The wild dogs had evidently killed an impala that morning; by the time the guests arrived there was very little remaining.
