At the annual We Are Africa travel show in Cape Town last month, which brings together the best and the brightest from the African tourism industry and worldwide partners, two of our people walked away winners at the Innovation awards.

Gorata Nyame from Savute Safari Lodge and Albert Ndereki from Chobe Game Lodge won the Rise Africa and the Shape Africa awards, respectively.

Gorata’s Rise Africa award aims to; Recognising those up and coming young stars making a mark in the African travel industry: From influential bloggers to passionate tour guides, top chefs to remarkable hotel personnel.

The bundle of positivity and energy that lives within Gorata is evident in her quick rise to success. In only a few short years, Gorata proved her worth as a leader – bringing aspects of her past in special education into her current role of managing safari lodges. Gorata combines her knowledge of different forms of communication with her people skills and great understanding of human behavior to bring to life her guests dreams of Africa and to inspire her colleagues to strive for greatness.

Albert’s 40 years of dedication and hard work that helped shape the tourism industry in Botswana won him the Shape Africa award which aims to;Recognising those individuals whose tireless passion and dedication to changing perceptions of the continent are shaping Africa’s future for the better.

Considered to be the encyclopedia of Ecotourism by many in Botswana, Albert’s knowledge and experience has allowed him a wide reach of influence amongst the tourism community and the greater region of Northern Botswana at large. His passion and work in bringing tourism and communities closer together has seen him recognized not just on the We Are Africa stage – but at a Governmental level as well. As one of the Botswana Tourism Industries longest serving members, Albert has also just been interviewed for a CNN Inside Africa feature – celebrating this Chobe legend for all his hard work.

We are so incredibly proud of both Albert and Gorata!
